PROJECT | MODEL SHOOTINGS
PROJECT | A1 PRESENTATION BOARDS
This is the final project that required us to propose a design scheme in correspondence with the knowledege, studies and informations analysed through Project 2, which response to the site, Labrador Park (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), functional program and users' experiences. In short, we were to propose a Visitor Interpretive Centre (VIC) on the identified site by generating design based on the unique character and conitions of the site context that were studied and analysed previously, through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light, materials and textures. The VIC is to be in a small scale community building which response to the site, in providing a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/history/memory/essence of the site.
An "Experimental space" ...taking into account the considerations of user, context, function and experience......
Upon the completion of the Project 3, the process of idea and concept development was well carried on from the previous project and hence I could admit that a set of very strong genius loci elements had been well-identified in my VIC. Taking much considerations and thoughts of generating the whole concept and design through emphasising the flow of experience: primary circulations, flow of space, intermediate/transition spaces, the variation and hierachy of spaces, inside/outside relationship, manipulation of light, texture and material, and scale & proportion. Implementing with these design considerations and elements, a set of orthographic drawings (scale 1:100) and a sectional physical model (scale 1:75) had been done to illustrate the experiential spaces of the proposed concept and designed VIC.
Concept:
Protectionism.
PROTECTION GIVEN FROM THE SITE TOWARDS THE SITE HISTORY AND VICE VERSA.
Generation of the concept in creating a desire for social unity
to embrace the site and history; meantime,
representing battle monumentality with a seemingly gathering shell
that strongly provides the idea and sense of protection
given by the site and history.

PROJECT | CONCEPT & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

After the final crit presentation was held, I have received a good feed-back and comments from the external crit, Mr Shalil. He was giving a very high comment on my model-making (wholly physical) that said to have shown and exaplained the spatial organization and experiences greatly, despite there was not any 3D digital model rendering done. In overall, he gave credits on the sketches I drawn and for my strong genius loci concept generated, together was well illustrated through the plan and the site plan. Generally, he had no big issues or questions towards my project, yet generously complementing that he would definitely pay a visit to my proposed VIC, if it was built! A grateful thanks and so much appreciate his appreciation towards my effort paid.
