PROJECT | PRESENTATION BOARD
In a pair of 2, Nicole Lim Xu Teng and me were required to design a green info-shelter, in exploring the environment poetics. The requirement was to design a small space within an open area, applying ideas of environmental sustainability in architectural design. The structure should provide both a shelter and suitable environment for the users.
Upon the completion of this project, we managed to:
- Analyse and identify the environmental qualities and contextual needs of a site, where given site was the empty circular platform situated right next to roundabout waiting area and the Syopz.
- Apply ideas of environmental sustainability through precedent studies, Environmental Sustainabilit Design and Building Science.
- Employ particular material and construction technique.
Given the requirements of designing a green info-shelter of volume 3mx3mx3m (max) to serve the main purpose of providing info on events and activities in CODA, SABD which is a gallery of architcture and design school. Apart from that, the shelter has to be able to fit 5 students who are waiting to pick up, provided with minimal area of storage and services.
Task given had been done through a progressive work-done. First and foremost, pre-design was carried out through the process of design analysis on site. Analysis and investigation were made relating site context and the natural environment through photographs and diagrams at different time. After the prime process of site analysis done, schematic design where includes problem solving and conceptual thinking was carried outin order to develope sketch plan and section in responding to environmental and user needs. During the progress, Nicole and I had been seeing out tutor, Mr Axxu for tutorial in gaining some feedbacks and ideas to improve our design and to keep the progress on the right track. Mr. Axxu had helped us a lot on resolving our design, especially in developing functional and practical space by taking account into interaction between environmental and architectural space and form.
Thence at the end, we managed to propose a green info-shelter which we were both satisfied with and of course gained good comments from our tutor.
